Welcome to Westboro Ottawa Neighbourhood Tour

westboro ottawa

Welcome to Westboro. Often referred to as Westboro Village, the neighbourhood is located in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario. Westboro borders are between Island Park Drive to the east and the Ottawa River to the north. The population of the neighbourhood is just under 25,000.

In the early 1800s the area was a farming community, eventually sawmills opened in the late 19th century followed by an electric trolley in 1900 that provided easy access to downtown. The neighbourhood was established and existed as a police village until it was annexed by Ottawa in 1949. Most of the homes in Westboro are detached and were built between 1900 and 1960.

Lively Street Scene In westboro ottawa

If you are considering moving to Ottawa area, Westboro is an appealing destination thanks to its lively street scene. The neighbourhood became more dense due to several new condominium projects which will bring more people into the area. Local artists have painted murals throughout the village. A variety of boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops along Richmond Road are evidence of the gentrification that Westboro has undergone in the 2000s. Every August the annual Fuse Street Festival celebrates dining and music.

Connection to the Outdoors

One of the many assets of living in Ottawa is access to nature. Among the boutiques are several focused on sport and outdoors, such as Lululemon, Athletica, Mountain Equipment Co-op, and The Expedition Shoppe, since the area is close to many cycling trails as well as the Ottawa River’s whitewater rapids. The neighbourhood also provides access to Westboro Beach on the Ottawa River, as well as the Maplelawn estate, which offers lush gardens.

If you are considering relocating to city, consider this area and all it has to offer, from culture to the outdoors and more!
