Manotick
Welcome to the lovely small town community of Manotick! Manotick is a community in Rideau-Goulbourn Ward in the rural south part of the City of Ottawa. Considered a suburb of the city of Ottawa, and it’s located on the Rideau River, immediately south of the suburbs Barrhaven and Riverside South.
history of manotick
This quaint and sought after community was established in 1864 and named the village ‘Manotick’, which stems from an Ojibwa word meaning ’island in the river’. Originally in the 1960s, this area was developed for the purposes of logging, milling, and trading along the, newly created at the time, Rideau Canal Long Island Locks, with a population of 100 people. As time moved on, this little community has flourished into a “day trip” destination and bedroom community only 25 km from downtown Ottawa. Manotick is the perfect example of one of the many “small town” communities that surround the Ottawa area, making living in Ottawa a place where, in just a short drive from your home, you can experience a little mini vacation for a day. In most small towns you will find a thriving and unique main strip, loaded with one of a kind shops and restaurants – with Manotick being no exception. From shoe shops like Mansfields Shoes, to (and my personal fave) pizza joints like Pizza All’Antica, and homegrown restaurants like the Black Dog Bistro – it’s no wonder it’s such a great small town destination to live and visit. Let’s go check it out – I know you’re gonna just LOVE this small town.
