Welcome to Tanglewood Ottawa Neighbourhood Tour

Tanglewood Ottawa Neighbourhood Tour

Today’s neighbourhood tour takes us 25 minutes southwest of downtown to Tanglewood Ottawa. Formerly part of Nepean, this suburban residential neighbourhood is home to about 5,000 residents and includes the Hillsdale community.

Tanglewood is one of the neighbourhoods with easy access to Algonquin College’s main Ottawa campus. Founded in 1967, this College of Applied Arts and Technology offers a wide variety of degree programs.

Many Tanglewood residents attend Algonquin, and the neighbourhood is a great place for off-campus housing. Students can enjoy a quiet, suburban vibe and a quick and easy commute to campus.

MERIVALE ROAD IN TANGLEWOOD OTTAWA

The eastern boundary of this lovely area is Merivale Road. This major arterial route provides easy access to surrounding communities. It’s also a busy hub of activity right in Tanglewood.

You’ll find restaurants, gyms, retail outlets, and other goods and services in the area right off Merivale Road in Tanglewood’s southeast corner. Having easy neighbourhood access to so many businesses is a convenience residents appreciate.

REAL ESTATE IN TANGLEWOOD OTTAWA

Tanglewood was developed primarily in the late 1960s through the mid-1980s. The area offers an exceptionally nice mix of detached and semi-detached homes, townhomes, and apartments. In fact, the majority of homes were built between the 1960s and 1970s accounting for 59% of the properties. Homes built from the 1980s and 1990s accounts for just over 37%. Homes built post 2000 accounts for only 1.3% of the properties.

In part due to its proximity to Algonquin, Tanglewood is a relatively ethnically diverse neighbourhood. Its easy accessibility to goods and services, variety of housing choices, and local parks and schools make it a great choice for young families, seniors, and college students.

If you’re moving to Ottawa and looking for a mature, accessible suburban neighbourhood with affordable housing options, Tanglewood may be just right for your needs. If you’ve decided it’s time to move out of the city, check out this quiet neighbourhood.
