HISTORY OF City View — Crestview — Meadowlands neighbourhood
Unlike its more contemporary neighbour to the west, the development of City View—Crestview—Meadowlands began all the way back in the 1930s. It started in City View with its grid of residential streets and single-family detached homes. The 1950s brought bungalows to Crestview and later development added town homes and condos to the mix.
Development has continued in the neighbourhood with both low-rise and high-rise apartment buildings adding housing options for residents. Some of the original 1930s structures have been torn down to make way for new homes, and others have been lovingly maintained or restored.
REAL ESTATE IN MEADOWLANDS OTTAWA
Formerly part of the city of Nepean, City View—Crestview—Meadowlands is about 12 kilometres southwest of downtown Ottawa. An easy commute for people moving to Ottawa and working in the city, this neighbourhood is home to about 8,500 residents and the Ottawa campus of Algonquin College.
This residential neighbourhood is dotted with public parks and has both an outdoor swimming pool and the Thunderdome Soccer Facility. You can visit the Nepean Museum in City View and head over to the Algonquin campus for a lot of casual dining restaurants.
Shopping options include the stores in Merivale Mall. Located on the edge of Crestview, the mall underwent a large-scale redevelopment in 2015. Nearby neighbourhoods offer more access to shops and entertainment, including the neighbourhood shops in Centrepointe and the Pinecrest Recreation Complex in Iris—Queensway Terrace South.
City View—Crestview—Meadowlands is a great neighbourhood for residents of all ages. Students living near campus, young families, and seniors living in Ottawa downsizing to one of Crestview’s bungalows all find plenty to love about this suburban area.
