Welcome to Fisher Heights Ottawa Neighbourhood Tour

Fisher Heights Ottawa Neighbourhood Tour

Today, we’re going to spend some time in the former city of Nepean as we tour the Skyline – Fisher Heights neighbourhoods. Bordered to the west by Merivale Road and the north by Baseline Road, this neighbourhood has a nice mix of residential streets, parks, and businesses.

The main business district is right at the intersection of those two big border roads. You’ll find lots of restaurants and local service businesses along both Merivale and Baseline.

Convenience stores, gas stations, pharmacies, and grocery stores provide residents with essentials. Small malls like Emerald Plaza help concentrate the businesses.

Cityview Ottawa – Fisher Heights Ottawa

That busy intersection of Merivale and Baseline Roads used to be the village of City View. It was a police village until the Fisher Heights subdivision began construction in the 1950s.

City View still exists today as a neighbourhood. It is now west of Merivale Road, not too far from the Algonquin College campus buildings.

Back in my day this corner was home to radio station 106.9 The Bear and CJOH news. And there was always plenty of summer fun at Dairy Queen! I have a lot of great memories of this neighbourhood.

Skyline Ottawa – Fisher Heights Ottawa

Sitting about eight kilometres from downtown Ottawa, Skyline – Fisher Heights is adjacent to the Experimental Farm. The neighbourhood has lots of detached single-family homes on big lots with mature trees. It is also home to at least half a dozen parks.

The primary development in the Skyline – Fisher Heights area that began in the 1950s continued through the 70s. Initial construction consisted of detached homes and high-rise townhome buildings.

More recent additions include garden homes, apartments, and low-rise condo complexes.
