Bells Corners East Ottawa Neighbourhood Tour

Today we’ve driven the quick 15 kilometres from downtown Ottawa to the beautiful Bell’s Corners – East. Located inside Ottawa’s Greenbelt, this neighbourhood is a paradise for nature lovers.

Bell’s Corners – East was built up in the 1950s around Robertson Road. This main road dates back to the early 1800s. A connection between the city and nearby areas, this single street grew into an entire suburban neighbourhood in the 1950s.

If you wander down Robertson Road you’ll find local establishments including TATKA, a Bangladeshi halal meat and grocery store, Lapointe Seafood and Sushi, and Dinardo’s Skis and Wheels Ski Shop.

The entire main street is dotted with restaurants, shops, and services so you can find everything you need right in the area and if you can’t find what you are looking for you can easily take a drive down the street to the massive Bayshore Shopping Centre.

NATURE TRAILS OF BELLS CORNERS EAST

Heading into the greenbelt south of Bell’s Corners – East takes you right into the Stony Swamp Conservation Area. This forested area, the largest of the Greenbelt, is rich with trails.

You’ll find exhibits along the trails documenting the area’s history and geology that give hikers and cross-country skiers a convenient place for a rest. Try the Stony Swamp trail that heads out to Colin’s Lake or the Lime Kiln trail that leads to the Lime Kiln ruins.

All of the trails offer multiple loops and hikes for nature lovers of all experience levels.

If you’re looking for a place to take your four-legged friend, Bruce Pit is calling your name! With a nice trail and a big dog park, this is a popular area for hikers and their canine companions.

REAL ESTATE IN BELLS CORNERS EAST

If you’re moving to Ottawa and looking for a quiet vibe and affordable homes, Bell’s Corners – East is a terrific choice. The original architecture from the 50s in Lynwood Village stands with newer developments like Bellwood Estates. In fact, 19.9% of the homes in the area were built prior to 1950s.

The majority of the properties were built between 1960s to 1970s with 71.9%. This is well above the Ottawa average of 30.9% for the same time period of build.

For the awesome decade of 1980s and the 1990s well that accounts for 5.6% of the properties. And for homes built after the year 2000 that is 2.6%. The area is certainly strong for home ownership vs renters. About 86.5% of the homes in the area owner occupied which is well above the Ottawa average of 65.7%. This is consistent with neighbouring area of Bells Corners – West.

And renters account for only 13.3% of the population above the Ottawa average of 34.3%. You’ll find a nice mix of detached homes, condos, and town homes in Bell’s Corners – East. It’s a popular neighbourhood for both young families and seniors looking to downsize.
