Whitehaven Ottawa Neighbourhood Tour – Ottawa Life with Ottawa Realtor and Ottawa Real Estate Agent

Today we’re heading about 10 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa to hang out in the Whitehaven—Queensway Terrace North area. These two neighbourhoods saw a few residents as far back as the late 1800s! Most of the homes, though, were built in the 1950s and 60s.

Whitehaven was born on the lands of the Fox Farm, and its homestead and windmill tower still reside in the neighbourhood. Queensway Terrace North has its own agricultural roots. The 1950s homes were built on what was then known as the Arkell Farm.

People moving to Ottawa who want a great combination of outdoor recreation and the conveniences of the city will find lots to love about Whitehaven—Queensway Terrace North. Frank Ryan Park and Elmhurst Woods offer outdoor sports and wooded paths.

Cyclists enjoy the residential streets and the neighbourhood’s connection to the NCC pathway network. Many people use the pathway to commute to work, riding right into downtown Ottawa.

Public transit is also abundant, convenient, and a popular way to get to work. More than 30% of Whitehaven’s residents use public transit for their commute.

Residents looking for a project have ready access to IKEA and other major retailers. They’re also close by the specialty stores on Carling Avenue. Just one neighbourhood over you’ll find the busy Bayshore Shopping Centre and the Lincoln Fields Mall.

This is a nice, big neighbourhood. The original lots were large, and the area now boasts a variety of housing types and styles. Most of the homes, almost 70%, were built before 1980.

While you’re in Whitehaven—Queensway Terrace North, make sure to keep an eye out for one of the local cafes. Residents can get a great cup of coffee before hitting the bike path for their daily pedal into the city.
